January 31, 2006 - UPDATE
First, our apologies for not updating this site regularly. We
feel particularly remiss because we’ve received comfort
and strength from your thoughts and prayers. Our mom has been
greatly blessed and we really appreciate your concern, love and
prayers for her.
Mom had only been home from the hospital for a few days when
her chest felt “a little funny”. We hoped it was reflux
or anything else minor, but x-rays showed blood clots in her lungs
and pulmonary artery. October 23rd was a frightening day. The
risks associated with using anti-coagulants following a recent
surgery were now outweighed by clots which could become life threatening.
She was in the hospital for a little over two weeks as the hospital
staff carefully monitored her progress from an intravenous anti-coagulant
to a daily pill. No bleeding – another miracle!
She started radiation treatments the day she was released from
the hospital. Our brave mom said very little, but for someone
with Closter phobia, we knew the treatments were terrifying and
she had to face them five days a week. After a week or so, she
told us she had made a choice to change the way she looked at
the treatments. She would no longer dread them, her “sunbeams”
were there to help. And from then on, her treatments were referred
to as sunbeams. Her last “sunbeam” appointment was
December 20th. She handled them really well. She was a little
sleepy, but didn’t have any real adverse affects. (More
blessings!)
She started chemo on January 23rd – and so far, feels good.
Good enough, in fact, to spend a couple days in Las Vegas demonstrating
at a wholesale show for Lasting Impressions. It’s a world
she loves – and it’s good to see her back in it!
Mom asked that we send her love and gratitude. She deeply appreciates
your concern, thoughts and prayers. She considers you friends
and misses you desperately. She hopes to see you down the road
and thank you personally. Also, she hasn’t forgotten that
she promised details on her fairy party.
She continues to face challenges and fears with dignity, grace
and a sense of humor and has maintained a positive attitude throughout.
Again, we offer our heartfelt thanks. When mom was diagnosed
life changed for us – it became more busy and more simple
all at once. We’ve faced frightening times, yet have always
felt the comforting love of our Father in Heaven. We believe in
the power of prayer and have seen miracles. Thank you, again.
Our mom still has much to face, but we’re cherishing our
time with her with grateful hearts.
October 20, 2005
Mom had surgery to remove a tumor on Sunday, October 9th. We were
much relieved as the surgeon told us that everything went “very,
very well.”
She spent two days in the neurological ICU where she amazed everyone
with her progress. We were told that she may not talk for a day
or so after surgery – but, as many of you know, that’s
not our mom. She spoke with us that evening – so much that
the nurse whispered to us that we may have to leave because she
felt obligated to talk to us. We thought she was asleep until
she whispered, “I don’t feel obligated.” Our
mom just loves people and enjoys talking with them.
She is a strong woman and keeps us all smiling. Within a day
or so after surgery we were all telling her how good she looked.
She replied smiling, “I’m not sure I believe you.
When Lincoln (a son) was in the hospital (following a motorcycle
accident), I told him he looked good – and he didn’t
look so good!” She was named favorite patient on the floor
and a number of her nurses told us she was their all time favorite
patient.
She was released from the hospital in Las Vegas on Monday, October
17th. Shortly after getting off the plane, she told us she was
concerned about some pain in her legs. She was greeted by children
and grandchildren holding signs and balloons and then we took
her to a local hospital where we learned that she had blood clots
in both legs. A filter was placed in her vena cava (?) vein because
it was too soon after surgery for blood thinners.
She was released from that hospital last night and was looking
very forward sleeping in a good bed – in a quiet place.
She told us she didn’t want to do any more hospital hopping!
She continues to get stronger every day.
We’re grateful for the prayers and kind words. We have
gained strength from them and have truly seen miracles. She’ll
start radiation and chemo therapy soon and pray for your continued
support. She loved hearing the e-mails in the hospital. She was
very touched and grateful for the support. They meant a lot to
her. If you would like to send her a note, please e-mail at loriejacobs@lastingimpressions.com

She would love hearing from you!
Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts!

To all those who love Lorie:
On the way home from their last show, Mom wasn't feeling well
and Dad took her to the nearest Emergency Room. We learned
that she has a five centimeter tumor on the right side of her
brain. She had surgery yesterday afternoon to remove the
tumor. We feel blessed she is receiving such good medical
care and is surrounded by family.
Mom loves what she does because of each of you. You have
touched her life and she is always sharing stories from "the
road". We know she would love hearing from you and
appreciate your prayers. Notes can be sent to:

Or e-mail at loriejacobs@lastingimpressions.com.
We’ll try to keep you updated at touchofembossing.com.
We have great hope and faith that this Angel, who we've all come
to love and adore, will stay with us.
Again, we appreciate your love and kindness and express a warm thank you to the six women who helped tear down in Pomona.
Love,
Duane & Lorie's Kids
